fusion (1980)

Joe Zawinul, piano; Wayne Shorter, saxes; Jaco Pastorius, bass;
Peter Erskine, drums; Robert Thomas Jr., hand drums.

Joe Zawinul displays his control and keyboard programming expertise in this composition. This performance moves from interesting sounds on the keyboard to a focus on the solo ability of Jaco Pastorius, who became the leading figure in electric bass performance. Jaco licks (melodic figures typical of Pastorius) were imitated by both jazz and rock bassists.
